serendipitous weather

cowrainbow

I was at the right place at the right time once again for this cow rainbow shot. I was on a photo assignment following the Midwest Living editor (Greg Philby) and his family on a Kansas vacation. I spent the morning walking 4 miles through waist high prairie grass as Greg’s family and the cowboy family road on horses through the Flint Hills. Later that day my car battery died (go figure). I got a jump from someone at the ranch, then went into Cottonwood Falls to get a new battery. On the way back I decided to head into the Hills a little farther and shoot some of the dark weather clouds. Well, the skies opened up suddenly, the rainbow appeared, and my lone longhorn was smack in the middle of the rainbow. Cool.

See the photo much bigger here.

  1. Nice shot! Glad to hear the battery gave up the ghost in a fairly reasonable spot. I imagine there were places that would have been much less convenient!

You’re so very right. I was in a lot of those “less convenient spots” just a couple hours earlier. It would have made for a really good story, though. Or not.
