Snowy Egret

by blog

I don’t think I have the photographic patience to be a wildlife photographer. You have to scout locations, do your research, and then sit and wait, sit and wait, sit and wait. . . And then you have to be patient enough to leave a shoot ‘empty handed.’ That’s not my idea of fun. I do, however, fancy myself as a pretty good ‘shoot-from-the-car-window-wildlife-photographer.” Sure, I probably won’t ever get a shot of rare or exotic animals – but I’ll snag an occasional keeper. Like this Snowy Egret from Cheyenne Bottoms. My fast and trusty Nikon 70-200mm could have used about 200mm more juice – but I don’t have an extra $5K for a big-daddy lens. Oh well.

I figure if I get 2-3 shot-from-the-car-window-wildlife shots each year – I could design a wildlife book by the time I’m 80 years old.

More Kansas

I spent the weekend scouting the Wetland & Wildlife Byway, Prairie Trail Byway and Flint Hills Byway. Love being out on the road.

Kansas Cowboys

Cool. I had several photos included in the June issue of Midwest Living. It’s a Kansas story called “Shoulda’ been a cowboy.”

More Scenic Byways

by blog

It’s been a very long time since I spent an entire evening exploring new ways to finish photos in Photoshop. I rediscovered several old actions and found some new ones, too. It was fun to be “more adventerous” with color, tone and contrast. I still have some work to get where I’d like the look to be, but I’m pretty happy with some of the pics. The donkeys are a good story that will be covered in a future post.
